Description:
2018 Extension of the Year: LABC Awards, Bridgend Inspired by the work of Glenn Murcutt, this is a 'light touch' contemporary extension to a traditional Welsh cottage. The client wanted large areas of glazing with thin aluminium frames, but wanted to retain a domestic and tranquil aesthetic. This was achieved by counterpointing the contemporary aesthetic with a timber deck structure which overlooks the countryside.

Description:
"The Level Crossing Community Interest Company was established in 2012 as a social enterprise with 2 very important aims - attracting new visitors to Llandovery and encouraging local employment and training opportunities. Over the past 12 months, with the help of our generous funders and committed volunteers, our builders have transformed the redundant North Western pub into a modern building providing affordable accommodation and bistro-style food" In March 2012, The Level Crossing CIC approached Darkin Architects to assist them in converting the former North Western Hotel in Llandovery into a Bunkhouse (similar to a youth hostel). Working within the existing layout of the building where possible, this made the project a challenging spatial design exercise. The scheme will also benefit from a state of the art solar hot water heating system to aid in the reduction of its CO2 footprint.

In 2011, our client approached Darkin Architects to develop an existing outline planning consent into their new home. This single storey dwelling has been designed to allow maximum light through the feature window and provide a tactile quality through the materiality used

Welsh Golf Club of The Year 2009
Description:
Glyn Abbey Golf Club was dramatically extended in 2009, becoming almost twice as large. These improvements contributed towards the Golf Club being named Welsh Golf Club of the Year 2009. In 2011, Darkin Architects were architect to further extensions to the club to add additional gym facilities and an increased level of women's changing facilities.

Description:
Darkin Architects were employed to prepare the construction and building regulations information as well as administrate the construction contract. The scheme proved to be an interesting technical challenge, but has produced a fantastic new home for our employer.

Description:
Darkin Architects successfully won a competitive tender for architect's services to assist the Ferryside Social Enterprise Group (FSEG) in their application for Big Lottery Funding. We designed the scheme on a tight budget to planning level and prepared detailed construction information to enable us to administrate the tendering process for the selection of the principle contractor.

Description:
Amy's Fashions hired Darkin Architects to redesign the shop front as part of a European Regional Development Package. The shop has been renovated to be into a Victorianesque façade, giving it a more up market and 'boutique' look.
