This family home in the heart of Hampstead was initially intended as a modest redevelopment of the existing property to include a number of extensions. As client aspirations did not fit within the initial brief, it became evident a whole new strategy was necessary. A new-build approach was therefore adopted and an innovative scheme was devised to provide a truly bespoke product that is sympathetic to its environment.
The new proposal therefore resulted in a four-storey property with a large basement, loft accommodations and spacious habitable rooms. Though objectively a large property, the building was cleverly devised to give off a perception of it being smaller than its reality – once one first reaches the property, they have no dimension of the true size of the dwelling. This was carefully executed through the use of the site’s natural change in levels and a number of recesses of the upper floors.
Clients’ wish list was the starting point for the development of the internal layouts. This resulted in a number of bedroom suites, large family rooms, swimming pool, games room and dedicated spa area. All these spaces were connected via an feature staircase that draws visitors into the property as soon as the front door is opened.
DS Squared were involved in absolutely every aspect of this project, aiding in the choice of all elements and working tirelessly with suppliers, subcontractors and a number of consultants to deliver this luxurious family home.
