Description:
Country house: replacing agricultural buildings and a dwelling to provide a substantial family home in the Sussex countryside this design breaks down the elements of the accommodation taking advantage of split levels on a sloping site to reduce the overall form and massing. Entrance, utility areas, garage with guest accommodation over, family living and main house are linked internally by a dramatic folded plate stair with glass balustrades stair. A mix of contemporary details and vernacular forms including pitched roofs and bay windows and built with handmade local bricks and plain clay tiles provides a soft appearance located comfortably in its immediate and wider landscaped setting.

Description:
Country Estate: Significant extension and alterations to a large country house rationalising the circulation and entry and providing modern accommodation for family living and recreation. Set out perpendicular to the existing house it forms and encloses the existing terraces and gardens adding privacy whilst separating the drive and garaging from view. Materials are matched to the existing house and the form of spaces created is related to room function with an open oak framed pitch truss roof provided to living rooms and a glazed flat roof link between the new and existing elements providing natural light and change in level.

Description:
Private recording studio: contemporary design responding to landscape and Green Belt setting with conversion of existing cart shed and new building using local stone, zinc sheet cladding and a green roof. Located adjacent the house and walled former farm yard new stone walls extend reflecting the enclosures with the building partly inset into the contours of the site the design sensitively conceals its massing and appearance whilst taking advantage of natural light and distant views.

Description:
Urban Regeneration: Mixed use development of a brownfield site originally part of the Brighton Station Locomotive works and Goods yard now an integral part of the vibrant New England Quarter. The site runs along the 200m retaining wall between upper and lower levels of the former works providing a dramatic site which the houses apartments and office block take advantage of with views across East Brighton. Houses are designed over three storeys taking historical cues from Brighton’s terraces with rendered elevations facing the road with terracotta blocks, timber and zinc cladding facing the greenway. The homes have been awarded an "excellent" Eco Homes rating as well as CABE Building for Life Gold Standard Award and winner ‘Large Residential Award@ from the Sussex Heritage Trust.

Description:
Country house: extension and alterations to a large country house rationalising the circulation and entry and providing modern accommodation for family living. New accommodation is provided in a subsidiary barn structure extending into the garden enclosing and extending terracing. Subtle use of dropped ceilings and built in furniture and wall panels carefully defines and separates the open plan spaces. The oak frame structure is exposed with glazed infill panels and doors providing a link between inside and outside. Its asymmetric form section educes height with lower sections clad with larch boards.

Description:
Restaurant refurbishment: following a devastating fire this Grade II listed building in Brighton’s historic Lanes area was restored and rebuilt providing modern kitchen, services and facilities whilst reproducing historic details to stairs and joinery. Interiors included bespoke bar and furniture design. The outside conservatory was replaced with a steel and frameless glass enclosure for external dining and opening up the view of the main building façade and enhancing natural light to the ground floor areas.

Description:
Restaurant refurbishment: complete refurbishment of existing restaurant taking in the adjoining building both listed Grade II. Detailed negotiations with Brighton and Hove City Council and English Heritage allowed sensitive alterations at all levels with new shop fronts and staircases to access and provide accommodation from basement to third floor with a dramatic infill of rear yard areas to form additional dining areas at mezzanine ground floors with new kitchens below. Interiors, bars and built in furniture were all designed by wcec architecture to develop a rebranding of this successful Italian restaurant and pizzeria.

Description:
Urban Regeneration: Mixed use development of a brownfield site in SW London as an extension to the Retail Park. Acting for Mowlem/Carrilion the Design and Build contractor for this project wcec architecture successfully translated the design into the built structure. Facing the road are retail and restaurant spaces at ground floor with apartments arranged in 4 storeys above. Behind are large units for retail and restaurant spaces along with car parking landscaping and service areas.
